Heart Pips

"Hey big sir.
You hang like a sleeping
flower; dangling, seeing the passing
clouds through rain pools".

"Turn your chin up,
stop, breathe and
smell the air
grown man, drink the rain;
nutritious, makes you strong".

"Now please come play
with me under that old tree
near the roots
let's search for pips".

"I've heard they'll crack and
one day be sprung with
the fruits of the heart.
Big sir
don't you believe that?".

This is an older poem of mine. It is about a child who speaks to an adult. But not just any child, it is our inner child. Through an extended metaphor of a flower, pips, roots, a tree and fruits - all organic things that grow from the rain - the child is telling us to start seeing the world as it is. To embrace it and stay true to our hearts' desires - to grow our heart pips. I really believe we as adults have a lot to learn from children and their way of being.
